The Mawazo Challenge was launched on 21 April 2017 by a consortium including Tanzania Bora Initiative, Sahara Sparks and Tanzania Medical Students Association. This round of Mawazo Challenge aimed to provide a platform for the Health and Allied Science Universities Students in Tanzania to foster ideas and solutions for problems in the health sector.
In the process of implementing the challenge, about 1,000 students in the 12 Health and Allied Sciences Universities in Tanzania were reached. At the end of the challenge only Ten winning ideas were identified and awarded seed funding of GBP 2500. HDIF and its contractors have been providing mentorship to the winning teams to enable them to develop their ideas into startups.
